I have worked with many fascinating product, research, development and marketing groups during my career. These teams have been made up of people from many different cultures, countries and continents. Each member of these teams has been an exceptionally talented professional.

The richness of perspective that these people have provided has been of great help in the preparation of this book. They have enabled me to develop a broad understanding of product definition from a range of political, product development and marketing perspectives.

In particular I acknowledge the influence of the following standards, research, product development and product marketing project teams:

  • ESPRIT Project 56, "Functional Analysis Of Office Requirements" led by Dr Alan Putman and incorporating team members from Denmark, Germany, and the UK.
  • ESPRIT Project 237, "Communication Systems Architecture" led by Graham Crisp and Mick Wilson and incorporating members from France, Germany and the UK.
  • ALVEY ANSA Project, "Advanced Network Systems Architecture" led by Dr Andrew Herbert and incorporating members from a broad spectrum of the UK computing and telecommunications industry.
  • British Standards Institution, Cordless Telephony Committee and Panel members.
  • The GPT Mobile Communications and Business Systems business units.
  • The GPT Strategic Communications Consulting team.
  • The Nortel Networks PCN and International Transmission Businesses.
  • Gavin Edmonds of Treefrog Design.

I also acknowledge the continuing support and patience of my family in allowing me the time and freedom to conceive my dream.
