Crows Connections
The earliest known reference to the Royston Crows comes in this reference in a Royalist print circa 1649 which sounds a little like the Vets Man of the Match Award Ceremony......
`The Royston Crowes have already taught you the way to take revenge on Prince Ireton's owly birds; for one Stewart`s son of Braughing, Cromwell`s cousin, was beating up drums for recruits,
and had gained some loose, idle fellows that had rather rob and be hanged than take pains to work and earn their livings, which the loyal-hearted townsmen understanding, seized on them,
yet nobly spared their lives, but cut a-too the sinews of their right hands to make them unserviceable for fighting against their King, I would all towns and cities in England would do the like.`
The Chairman of RRUFC asserts the collective noun for Crows is a Murder? See below our Murder of Crows!

Wagga is a town of 60,000 people but has produced more international sportsman than any other rural town in Australia. Wagga is Aboriginal for crow and as the Aborigines did not have plurals in their alphabet they would repeat the word when there was more than one. Hence Wagga Wagga is aboriginal for place of many crows and is on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River which is the life blood of Riverina and the MIA (Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area).; |
